It gives you goosebumps and makes you believe in yourself more.
Soma Goswami and Clover Wootton, the makers of Prosthetics deserves a standing ovation. The layers of the skin and the story behind it remained the same. But, the courage didn’t deteriorate and the skin glowed more because of her bravery and mindset. Sure! It wasn’t that easy and the 120 minutes walk-through of her whole journey is at your nearest theaters. Now!
Director Meghna Gulzar along with Atika Chohan maintained a similar pace throughout the movie. The movie makes you cry for sure and ignites the force of hope within you. Not only you witness deaths of the survivor in this movie but also witness hope.
Not only you witness deaths of the survivor in this movie but also witness hope.
Shall we speak about the cumbersome, tortoise-like authority under which India is stumbling all the time? Each one of us can relate to the slow jurisdiction process.
The Chaapak happens here!
The story starts with the protests happening outside the court and the camera misses out on capturing a story of the acid-attack survivor whose dad happens to show a passport size photo sticking on the camera lens. Again and Again!!
But, you know the camera goes where the crowd heads too.
Vikrant Messey who’s in the role of Mr. Amol Dwivedi assures the dad with that photo to come along with him. Amol is the man who is running an NGO called “Chayya” to help and raise fund for the surgeries the survivors needs to undergo.
The hardships for Malti reside wherever she chooses to go.
When steel-lady Malti arrives on screen
When Malti, played by Deepika Padukone first appears on the screen she is doing eyebrows with that thread to make someone else look beautiful. She receives the praise but she can’t get that job because of her face. Beauty!!! That’s it. It starts all with beauty even she is good at what she does.
She goes everywhere but the employers tend to not choose her and cover the conversation with lots of sympathetic eyes.
But, hey!! Help her out guys.
As Malti is on the job lookout she grabs the number of Amol to get into the NGO and work for a true cause. Their first talk on call is flattering and gives us that hint that something can cook between these two.
Praises for the Director!
We all are left with one question? Who did this and why? Meghna Gulzar has maintained suspense which gets carried to the last verdict which makes the 30 years old Rajesh the Attacker suffer 10 years imprisonment.
Supporting Actors steal our heart too
Each character in this movie peels of the layer of the story and each one of them is optimistic and is fighting for the right cause.
Even the lawyer Archana seems to be very strong and firm in her decision. She helps her daughter tie up the braids but her daughter doesn’t like it. Oh Sure!! Her dad does this deed for her. Oh man!! This equation melts our hearts too.
The way we see Malti grow and develop her persona, we get that assurance when we also see that the lawyer’s daughter gets older. It just confirms that this fight was not just for 2 years or so but literally lasted for more than 7 years.
Right before the second half!!
Just before the Intermission, we see that the new law is regulated which is called Section 307 & 120B. Lawyer Archana Bajaj played by Madhurjeet Sarghi knows what she’s doing very well.
Shiraz aunty and Archana are the two-pole which makes Malti get up and fight when she had lost all the hope in the world.
But, when Malti gets up there’s no going back. She’s confident!!
How’s the Music?
Music composed by the trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy connects the story well. The voice of Arijit Singh treats our ears and calms down our just cried soul.
We don’t see the real Deepika in the first half but later we get to see how all of this happened and what lead to all of this heinous tragedy. But, since the start somewhere we know that the woman we are watching on screen is Deepika Padukone and our soul breaks when we see her this way.
During the ending!
The screams don’t leave us until the last minute when a bride-to-be is about to get married and is gazing at her beauty in the mirror and is about to take selfies with her gang. But, what happens? Someone throws acid on her!!
For sure, this movie connects with a social cause. The key takeaway would be that it doesn’t matter what triggers you or what you need to survive, if you are strong you make the people around you stronger.
There is always that ray of hope. Remember whatever happens, when you are happy and something happens worth celebrating “Tum Party Kar sakte ho!!” Because Malti wants to party. She doesn’t keep the joy on the backseat.
What exactly made her happy? Go to your nearest theatre and watch it!!
- Although this whole movie tends to have that positive and hopeful mindset. The incident where Malti comes out of the court jumping in the sky and hugs Amol.
- When she lifts her face stole while coming out of the court is that brilliant scene which says a lot more.
- The Nok-Jhok between Amol and Malti!! True love gets you all the time.
- The character Rohit who is Malti’s brother has a lot to say but don’t get that much stay on screen. Thou’ Malti seems worried about him all the time!
- In the second half when you see Deepika portraying a school-going Malti’s character that does not feel authentic.
